Breckenridge, Colo. - December 19, 2010 - Canada's Alexis Godbout claimed his first-ever Winter Dew Tour victory at today's men's freeski slopstyle final, closing out the four-day Nike 6.0 Open at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Prior to Godbout's win, Ashley Battersby of Park City, Utah, was victorious in the women's freeski slopestyle final, earning a top score of 83.00.
One of three athletes to never miss a Winter Dew Tour final, 20-year-old Godbout finally landed on top of the podium at the season-opening event. Godbout's second run included a back 270, right rodeo 9 and a huge right kangaroo flip to earn a first-place score of 94.50. With a hometown crowd cheering him on, Breckenridge's Bobby Brown, 19, placed second with a 92.25. Twenty-one-year-old Sammy Carlson of Tigard, Ore. followed behind in third with an 88.75.
"I really didn't expect this that's for sure. I'm stoked," said Godbout. "I mean, I started the season in an amazing way and I couldn't be happier."
Twenty-two-year-old Battersby had a first place run in the women's freeski slopestyle finals that included a disaster (when you air the first part of a rail and slide down the second) on the Nike 6.0 Burlington Double Set, a disaster to switch on the Toyota rail, a switch 540 and a 720. Breckenridge's own Keri Herman, 28, placed second on her home mountain with a flat score of 83.00 and Canadian Jessica Warll, 22, rounded out the podium in third with an 80.00.
