A LITTLE BIT OF SWITZERLAND IN UTAH

I had the pleasure of staying at the Zermatt Resort, in Midway, Utah. It was just 25 minutes from Park City where I was covering the FIS Freestyle World Cup at Deer Valley. The Zermatt Resort was named after the Swiss village at the base of the Matterhorn in Switzerland. The name sought to draw a parallel between the breathtaking views of Switzerland and the vistas of Heber Valley, which lies at the base of the 13,000-foot high Wasatch mountain range. I really enjoyed my accommodations, gourmet dining, and full-service luxury spa at this first class resort, which had a view of rustic Western farmland from my window.

I stayed in a one-bedroom suite that included a spacious livingroom with a big-screen TV and fireplace. It had a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom and bath with a Jacuzzi, which really hits the spot after a day of skiing.

Midway is conveniently located near winter recreation opportunities such as sleigh rides, ice castles, tubing and snowmobiling, in addition to three world-class ski areas that include Deer Valley, the Canyons and the Park City Resort. The Zermatt is minutes from Soldier Hollow, home of the 2002 Olympic cross-country and Biathalon events. I drove a rental car on my visit but guests can take advantage of the free shuttles that run to Park City Ski areas as well as the evening Park City Dinner Shuttle.

Because I arrived in the wee hours of the morning, the Desk Clerk sent up a late-night snack for me. I can attest to the fact that room service is excellent at this resort. If you are planning a meeting, wedding or other festivities, this resort is able to accommodate you in style. There is a gift shop, steak house and bistro at the resort where you can enjoy fine dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The Zermatt offers refined Guestrooms, Suites, Villa Condominiums, and Townhomes. They all possess warm elegance and true hospitality. Schedule your trip to the Zermatt Resort for a luxurious resort experience in the beautiful mountains of Utah. When you do, tell them that you read about them in the Ski Bum News.
