PARK CITY, Utah (Jan. 25) – Recreational skiers can now make turns with some of America’s greatest ski champions in a unique clinic from the U.S. Ski Team. Olympic and World Championship medalists Donna Weibrecht, Doug Lewis, Phil Mahre, Heidi Voelker, Trace Worthington and Shannon Bahrke will host this year’s “Ice Men” ski clinic at Deer Valley Resort during the 2012 Visa Freestyle International World Cup, allowing participants a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve their performance while receiving VIP treatment and viewing privileges during the competition.From Thurs., Feb. 2 until Sun., Feb. 5, the six skiing legends will conduct three days of on-hill coaching and performance evaluations, while athletes show off their skills nearby at the World Cup event venue. The three on-snow days will be evenly split between a race clinic, moguls workshop and guided free skiing. Additionally, all participants will receive a tour of the USSA’s renowned Center of Excellence training facility nearby.
“The Ice Men clinic is a special program that offers our donors a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn from the best in the world,” said USSA President and CEO Bill Marolt. “There is nothing that better defines our organization than getting on snow and experiencing the sport. For our donors to be able to participate with these great athletes during a World Cup is the epitome of what we’re about.”
All proceeds from the clinic will benefit the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation. These funds provide athletes of the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing with the best possible training, equipment and coaching in their quest to be best in the world at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
“The Ice Men program ends up being one of my favorite skiing experiences each year,” said Olympic silver and bronze medalist Shannon Bahrke. “It brings together excellent skiers, great company and good food all in support of the best team in the world! I am very humbled and honored to be a part of it.”
